In vs. on = transport

Sitting only = In a car/in a van/in a truck/in a helicopter vs. sitting and standing & a saddle = On a bus/on a plane/on a train/on a tram/on a ship/on a bike/on a horse.

in = inside a container or a bowl shape 

on = touching a surface 

at = door/table/desk/counter/window/bus stop etc (places where In and ON don’t make any sense
