Different Types of Robos and Crimes
Different types of ROBOS and CRIMES
In Spanish, we use ROBAR for many concepts that have different names in English.
The first thing to remember is that ROB/STEAL and other verbs that mean ROBAR are transitive verbs.
We steal things.
We rob people.
We burgle houses.
etc.
We can never say that HE STOLE ME. I am not the object of this verb. He can kidnap me + Secuestrar but He cannot steal me. He can ROB me but using force. Below, we will look at the different types of crime and their words to express them.

Discussion
Task: Why would a criminal commit each one of these crimes? What kinds of situations could lead a normal person to commit these crimes? Discuss each crime. What kind of punishment would you recommend for a habitual criminal and someone who was forced to do it by circumstances?
Example: I have seen in many movies that people commit carjacking when they are trying to escape from people who want to kill them. At other times, it was because they had to save someone’s life. In both cases, they are normal law abiding citizens who are forced to take the law into their own hands. I would recommend being very lenient with these people as anyone in a situation like that could do the same. On the other hand, I have also known of carjackers who commit carjacking to sell the car and its parts for the money they can get. These are violent criminals who have no fear. Most probably, they have weapons to force people to do what they want. I would suggest being really tough with these carjackers by sending them to prison for no less than 5 years.
